The Golden Triangle Knitting Guild is knitting and crocheting scarves for WomenHeart's
HeartScarves project. WomenHeart, the national coalition for women with heart disease, presents handmade, red scarves to women with heart disease. According to
WomenHeart, the scarves act "as a way of showing them the support and caring from their communities. HeartScarves touches the hearts of both the givers and receivers, and provides an excellent vehicle for carrying out both the education of women and heart disease and introducing WomenHeart to the patient. The heart scarves can also be presented to people who are advancing the awareness of women’s heart health."
The scarves knitted by the GTKG will be donated to
St. Dominic's Mississippi Heart Institute and will be received by women who are undergoing cardiac procedures or cardiac rehab at their facility.
Project guidelines:
- Scarves should be made with yarn in red colorways.
- Scarves should be approximately 3-4 inches wide, and 50-54 inches long.
- WomenHeart seeks light weight and soft scarves. The scarves are symbolic and not made for warmth. Frequently, women will wear their scarves while having procedures as a source of comfort.
To participate, bring your completed scarf to the next Golden Triangle Knitting Guild meeting.
