Mini Stockings!

Perfect for using up your scrap sock yarn, mini stockings make great Christmas tree ornaments. Or fill them with small candy canes and give them with your Christmas cards to co-workers! I've even seen some ambitious knitters using them as a creative advent calendar (one mini-stocking per day). Regardless of your purpose, knitting mini-stockings is just plain fun. And addictive. You'll find that they are almost instant gratification projects that leave you ready to cast on another the minute you cast-off.

Pictured are two of my favorite mini-stocking patterns. Pictured above (with the fair isle pattern) is a pattern by Julie of the blog Little Cotton Rabbits. Her pattern, Knitted Mini Christmas Stockings, is knitted flat and seamed. Pictured below is the Alpaca Socks Mini-Sox pattern by Classic Elite Yarns. It is knit in the round, and has all the elements of a full-size sock (except grafting the toe using kitchener stitch). For speed, I prefer the mini-sox pattern (no seaming!). But for adorableness, you can't beat the tiny fair isle patterns. Merry holiday knitting!
